Malware Spike this Month

Great anti-malware just works right? You never hear much about it but you know you need it - you pay to keep it up to date and it ticks along silently in the background. Well this month we saw some interesting stats and thought it would be good to share - we all like to know our investments are paying off right?!

During August alone we recorded almost 500 malicious emails that contained the Eldorado strain of malware, which due to our preventive measures never even got the chance to be opened or viewed by your team, protecting them without them even knowing it!

So what does this Malware actually do?
While this strain isn't transmitted by coughs or hand shakes like Covid-19, it is actually heavily used as a trigger for downloading ransomware among other things. This malware is generally embedded in a word document file which is then emailed to the victim. A silent macro (automated script/process) runs and off it goes, downloading the additional files it needs to execute its full attack with the goal of deploying a full scale ransomware infection/attack.

As we all know ransomware can wreak significant havoc if allowed to land and execute on a computer in your business so it's great to know that know that we have multiple preventive measures in place to combat these threats and they are working! Ultimately this reduces the attack surface for potential attacks to keep it as minimal as possible in today's ever challenging world.
